The Karnataka-born, Mumbai-based shooter has been in the forefront of women’s shooting for some time now. Her list of achievements is impressive. In 2006 she broke the world record by shooting a total score of 500.9 (398 in qualifying and 102.9 in the finals). In the 2002 Busan Asian Games, while Indian shooters delivered a below par performance, Suma along with Deepali Deshpande and Anjali Bhagwat helped India to a superb silver against very stiff competition from China, Korea and Japan. Earlier, in 2004 she equalled the world record by shooting a perfect 400/400 in the qualifying for the Asian Championship held at Kuala Lumpur. She made her Olympic debut in the Athens Games in 2004. When not jet setting across the globe to take part in competitions, she can be found practising on her electronic Sius Ascor shooting apparatus, which she has set up near her house in Mumbai.
